One Layer Simplicity Challenge

It’s raining outside today and my husband commented that we hadn’t made it to the beach all summer.  Sigh…the time has flown and I am dreading a trip down over Labor Day but we may just brave the crowds (if the weather is nice!).  In the meantime, this helped cheer me up!  I’m so glad I hopped over to the One Layer Simplicity Challenge today – they had several color combos posted that are wonderful!  This is the one I chose for my inspiration.

My CAS card above features two stamp sets from A Muse Studio:  Sea Shells and Hand Scripted.  The inks I used were Eucalyptus, Mermaid and Wheat.  I stamped the Hand Scripted sentiment with Versafine Onyx and Sugar cardstock from A Muse Studio is the base.

I also happen to need a birthday card for my Brother-in-Law…so I grabbed Hooray It’s Your Day.  That was a limited edition stamp set but I was tickled when A Muse Studio released those balloons (plus a lot more!) in their new catalog and it’s called:  Birthday Balloons.   I hand doodled the strings and really wanted to do some more doodling around the balloons but after a failed first attempt, I chickened out!

The inks I used this time were:  Eucalyptus, Mermaid and Pebble.  In hindsight, that Mermaid is too bright and I should have off-stamped it once like I did above in the shells…perhaps I had this color combo in mind, although I may have combined the two in my head since I don’t have a computer where I craft…

I was worried that my husband would think this card was just too CAS…know what I mean?  Especially if your family and friends are used to you doing layers and embellishments, this could be a shock.  You have to wean them into it!  tee hee….so I just cropped the card down a bit a matted it with a layer of A Muse Studio Eucalyptus cardstock.  And, I added some splatters of Bermuda Splash to tie into the one balloon.

You may be thinking at this point, “uh Chris, you should have left it alone!”  Oh well, it’s ready for the mail now…unless I start doodling on those balloons (wink, wink).  UPDATE:  My CAS birthday card version was mentioned as a SCS CAS Favorite today (Sunday)…I guess I should’ve just left it alone!!
