heARTful stamping challenge – Anything Goes!

This month’s theme and monthly prize

Anything Goes + a stamp

Sep 3 – Sep 10

Normally throughout the month I have held different sorts of challenges…”use it”, themes, sketch, etc.  But, depending on the challenge, I very often have less than 10 entries and those can include sometimes two links from one person.  I don’t know if it’s just that life is too busy for many of us (I know it is for me – I normally don’t even have the chance to go back and visit each entry, despite my intent to do so! – and I know that can be disheartening because we all appreciate the comments!) all my free time goes to creating new content for this blog, especially now that I am working full time.  I plan to see how a weekly Anything Goes heARTful stamping challenge goes.  There will still be weekly Top 3 winners and a random winner from all of the participants receives the monthly prize drawing.  This month’s prize winner will be announced on Monday, Sep 4, and they will receive this package of CTMH grey gems from me.

This Week’s Inspiration

Cyndi had a bad fall this week in her garage and hit her head hard and hurt her foot.  Miraculously she still had the desire to make a card for this week’s challenge and we both had to giggle at her theme.  Fall!  Cyndi used the Jack cardmaking stamp set that is now retired and also CTMH’s No Worries paper pack.  Just an FYI – this paper pack sold out before the Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog retired so if you do end up wanting something for sure – order it before the last month!

I’m super excited about Close To My Heart’s National Stamp Month celebration taking place this month!  These 2 and 3 step flowers are from a special release stamp set called From the Heart.  I have more information about the stamp set and special card kit available here on yesterday’s blog post.

This was a super quick card and even though it has a few layers of cardstock, I feel like it is CAS in nature.  Years ago Mischelle Smith did a lot of watercoloring with masking fluid and I promptly went out and bought some.  I had terrible results and stuck it aside…until today!  I gave it another try and although it wasn’t perfect, I think I let the ink dry longer and had less smudging.  It allowed me to stamp the word thankful and then overstamp with the feathers and watercolor them.  Once I rubbed off the dried masking fluid, I used my gold shimmer brush marker to fill in the word “thank”.  I am in LOVE with this new CTMH Stamp of the Month called Feel So Blessed.  It has so many great words, sentiments and other “elements” – perfect for cardmaking and scrapbooking!

CTMH School Year and More Watercolored Backgrounds

CTMH Some Kinda Wonderful and School Year STOM. CAS card ideas. Watercolored background for a quick and easy card!
While I was making my Jack bear card yesterday, I was rummaging through my CTMH stamp sets to find the perfect sentiment. Well, I stumbled across my Some Kinda Wonderful stamp and thincut bundle and thought the fox would also be perfect with this sort of layout. I couldn’t wait to try it out and this card quickly came together after school yesterday. I think that’s what I love most about these watercolored background cards – how quick and easy they are but they are still good looking!  Perfect CAS (clean and simple) cardmaking.

I hadn’t used the speech bubble yet from CTMH’s School Year August Stamp of the Month so I wanted to include it.  The heart trio stamp filled in the extra space perfectly – but I like the larger sized speech bubble because it’s perfect for scrapbooking layouts too.

I was super surprised to see a new batch of Warehouse Specials pop up on Tuesday….there are some great deals in there, as usual.  This time though, everything ends TONIGHT (Aug 31st) at midnight!

Just a few of the items that caught my eye were:

These items are slashed to 50% off and there’s more! Be sure to check out the Going Soon! section to see all the CTMH Seasonal Expressions 2 products that retire tonight as well. You’ll see some items that I never even had a chance to feature! Last day to grab your STOM too. eeck!

CTMH Seasonal Expressions 2 – Final Days!

CTMH Jack cardmaking stamp set with a watercolor wash background. Flower Market Cricut bundle - stamp set used for "crazy for you" sentiment. CAS card design.

I feel like Cinderella at the ball and it’s about to turn midnight! It’s almost that same scenario at CTMH except for when it turns midnight on Aug 31st all of these will disappear!

Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog RETIRES!

Warehouse Sale ends!
(and new products just posted on Tuesday,
8/29 so hurry and check them out)

August STOM finished…

sigh…I am going to really, really miss this current Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog – especially my favorite little bear in there called, Jack!  I could not resist using him one more time.  I stumbled across Megan’s blog (https://cropcraftcreate.com/2017/08/15/australasian-blog-hop-whats-not-to-love-about-jack/) and was so inspired by her watercolored backgrounds, and she in turn was inspired by another blogger, Carly Tee (http://www.carlytee.com/2016/02/love-this-bear.html)! TIP:  You can make this bear’s arms a little longer than the stamp by hand trimming out the paws and then just extending the “arms” with a black fine line marker!

What rubber stamping supplies do I need to make this card?

Let me share some lessons learned here…  Wait for your glue to dry before trying to outline your words with a black pen.  I almost ruined my pen, eeck!  And, I used some random watercolor paper that I had in my scrap pile and it clashes with the White Daisy base and bear.  I think you’d be happier with the CTMH watercolor paper.

To watercolor I first really wet the paper well where I wanted my paint to stay.  I helped it dry quicker with a heat gun and I liked how that also made the paint puddle and saturate some areas more than others.  And, while my paintbrush was wet with some extra paint, I splattered it across the watercolored piece.  I also managed to splatter the sink and wall surrounding my area…thankfully this watercolor paint by CTMH washes off easily (I haven’t had that luck with some sprays that tend to be permanent!)

This Week’s Inspiration

Debi is back this month as a Guest Designer for me – she blogs at That Might Look Good on a Card.  I’m blessed that Debi finds (or makes!!) the time to inspire you and I with her work each month.  When she rattled off all that she did this week, well, I was amazed.  Debi also reminded me that this is the last week to get the Little Dreamer paper pack (and everything else in the CTMH Seasonal Expressions 2 catty).  The Some Kinda Wonderful stamp set is in the Going Soon section as well.

This week the teachers were busy setting up classrooms and preparing for the arrival of our new little ones.  Monday will be the First Day of school for both my Kindergarten class, as well as my own two children now in college.  I can hardly believe that Stephanie is starting her senior year and George Henry is beginning his Sophomore year.  wow!!  It seemed fitting to use CTMH’s Stamp of the Month, School Year.  I had an idea that I wanted to combine it with this bear from CTMH’s Jack cardmaking stamp set – wasn’t sure how it would turn out but I kinda like it!  Remember, after August 31st neither of these sets will be available…

CTMH Many Congratulations

CTMH Many Congratulations and watercolor pencils | CAS card design - pick a sentiment when ready to send!
Flower stamps. Some people get tired of new flower images…me? Never!! When I saw Close To My Heart’s new Many Congratulations stamp set (now available in the brand new CTMH Annual Inspirations!), I loved the idea that it could be “bundled” into a bouquet. Check out my card  using that idea here.

But I also envisioned stamping these flowers out like a wildflower meadow. This is such a quick and easy card – 100% CAS (clean and simple design)!  I know it looks a little sparse right now but I’m leaving it blank so that I can choose a sentiment when I’m ready to mail this card…that gives me a little more flexibility.

What rubber stamping supplies do I need to make this card?

I am really enjoying my CTMH watercolor pencils.  I’ve been using a few different brands up until now but was eager to try these since many of them are direct color matches.  For watercoloring pencils, I found I like to touch the tip of the pencil with my aquabrush and then paint my image.  To darken areas, I can just reapply or even better, now that the paper is a bit damp, I can color directly where I want a little extra color.  The pencil is softened from the aquabrush and I just love the effect.
